Little actions add up!
Team Letter | February 11, 2025
Hi Alpaca Team!
We’re trying something new this week — and I know you already noticed! When we showed up for All Hands yesterday, our team had a surprise waiting for us — a script, a goal, and a list of school principals for each of us to call. 30 minutes to kick off our week with a good old fashioned call-a-thon.
In just 30 minutes, before noon on a Monday, Alpaca hit our daily sales call goal, booked a sales demo, and made every team member a salesperson, even just for a little bit!
Right now, our focus at Alpaca is in dialing in our sales activities (pun intended), and that means hitting our goals on calls made, emails written, and events attended each and every week. We’re focused on activities because that’s the part we can control. We can’t always control how many principals or districts will say YES to trying out Alpaca this spring, but we can control how many of them we pick up the phone and call, get to a conference and meet, or show up with coffee and visit.

It sounds easy on paper, but then, the other parts of our jobs come in. Meetings that need collaboration. Team lunches no one wants to miss. Travel time to those conferences. It would be easy to say “oh, well on days with All Hands we’ll just lower the call goal.” Nope, because we know our little actions make big changes, and in a start-up, sales is everyone’s job.
It was so much fun to hear and see you connect with principals and schools yesterday! We met some lovely folks, connected with school office teams, left a lot of messages (that’s okay!), and even booked a meeting! I loved seeing every member of our team, no matter the role, connect with school staff in your own way. And I loved the excitement of seeing that effort pay off with a booked meeting.
Last week, we talked about finding work that is the “highest and best use of our time,” and I don’t know any better use of our time than hitting our daily call goal before our team meeting even begins. Those little actions add up to big opportunities — to learn from our customers, meet new ones, and continue to build and evolve our product in new ways.
This week, I challenge you to find another little win! Choose one little action that helps us hit our goals this quarter, and give yourself 15 minutes to do that thing each day. Here are three ideas for you:
Call 3 potential customers
Write a thank-you note to one of our principal customers
Send out 3 sample packs
Onward, Alpaca — we have big things to do with our little actions!
