Happy Monday, Big New Alpaca Team!
WOW – it was so much fun to welcome Maci McWilliams and Lila Padios to the team last week, and to be all together in one place! Thanks for bringing big energy and hype to the whole office – we’ve got an exciting quarter ahead!
This week, we kick off a season of conference travel and education events focused on signing up new customers to our new suite of products – Alpaca’s semantic pulse surveys and teacher recognition packs.
The lifeblood or our event strategy is booth demos – opportunities to tell our story and show off our product in about 3 minutes. So with our new designs for pulse surveys (thank you, Nicholas!) and some refined language on how we talk about them, we’ve launched a new demo deck and script. Please feel free to use these for sales demos, booth chats, or any purpose you feel!

Our system starts with SEMANTIC PULSE SURVEYS, a different way of asking your team how they’re doing.
Semantic Pulse Surveys are different than other ways of assessing staff morale, in two ways:
Semantic: Ask questions with words instead of 1-5 scales, for more actionable results.
Pulse: Our surveys are mobile-first and easy to complete in 60 seconds or less. No login, no app, no identifying information.
Alpaca combines these two ideas with our unique monthly survey. Here’s how it works:
Every month, teachers receive a link to a one minute survey.
We’re going to ask a few questions:
how are you doing?
what helps the most right now?
What else would you like to share about your experience?
You can choose as many words as you want, and when they pick one, new words appear. When you’ve picked as many as you want, you hit submit and you’re done!
What the teachers see is a bank of words that are:
The same color and size
Equal parts positive, negative, and neutral sentiment
No scales or sliders.
JUST WORDS! And all of these words are contributed through 16,000 submissions by real teachers in our pilot program
On our side, Alpaca has encoded these words across overall sentiment (positive to negative) as well as across our five drivers. This helps us show you which words teachers are using to describe work, and how those words align to those drivers of teacher wellbeing. That way, you know where to focus, and where to celebrate!
Each month, you’ll get a dashboard and PDF report that tells you:
REAL WORDS: Which words teachers are using to describe work
FIVE DRIVERS: Map your team’s selected words to our five drivers of wellbeing. Plus, find a team question for each driver.
TEACHERS OWN WORDS: Comment cards are anonymous, providing direct teacher insights every single month.
WAYS TO HELP RIGHT NOW: Hear exactly what they need, and find resources to provide supportive leadership to your team, this week.
DISTRICT-LEVEL VIEWS: District partners can see school-by-school results, to know where to focus retention efforts, and where to celebrate!
It all comes together in one dashboard that is delivered to you monthly via emailed PDF or our online dashboard!
